About Ryan A. Furby

Ryan A. Furby is an international corporate communication and public relations expert with more than 25 years of success protecting and building the reputations of some of the world’s most admired brands – including FedEx Corporation, Philip Morris International and Biogen. His specialties include management consulting, corporate branding and messaging, media relations, crisis communications and digital/social media engagement for companies in highly-regulated and dynamic industries.

Before starting his own agency, Ryan was Director and Global Head of Corporate and Internal Communications at Biogen, one of the world’s first biotechnology giants, based in Cambridge, Mass. Ryan joined Biogen in 2015 as Associate Director of Corporate Affairs for the European Union, based in Zug, Switzerland.  While there, he advised 21 country affiliates on local government affairs and communications strategies for various product launches, safety issues, regulatory approvals and pricing negotiations.

Ryan developed his management expertise at FedEx Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee, where he spent more than eight years in a variety of increasingly visible roles. He joined the FedEx Global Issues Management team in 2004, first serving as a global corporate spokesperson and later a media relations strategist – and was eventually promoted to build and lead the company’s first social media team.

In 2005, while at FedEx, Ryan was instrumental in the recovery efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. His work was featured on the cover of FORTUNE Magazine and the company was widely recognized for playing a key role in the immediate and long-term recovery of the region. In 2006, Ryan led a company-wide effort to assist in the reopening of the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and helped advise the company on charitable donations within the region.

Because of his success at FedEx, in 2012 Ryan was recruited by Philip Morris International (PMI) to build the company’s digital communications practice at the corporate headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. At PMI, he helped develop the company’s long-term communications strategy to shift from the world’s largest cigarette maker to the market leader in reduced-risk, smoke-free products.

Ryan is the recipient of the PRSA Silver Anvil, PR News CSR Award, Silver Sabre, PRSA Big Apple Award and other industry awards. In 2009, Ryan received the FedEx Five Star Award, the company’s highest individual honor, for his work to create the company’s first global citizenship report. He has been a guest speaker and lecturer at Loyola University, Erasmus University and the PRSSA national conference.

Before moving to Europe in 2012, Ryan was actively involved in the Memphis, Tenn. community, having served on the Board of Directors for the Phoenix Club, the fundraising arm of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis. He consulted on several successful political campaigns and advised candidates on messaging platforms, media engagement and mitigation of potential issues.

Ryan began his career at Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm, in New York City.

A native of Louisiana, Ryan is married with two children.
